Journey to the West 100: The Return to the East

The Journey Home

With the sacred scriptures in hand, Tripitaka and his disciples began their journey back to the East. The return journey was filled with a sense of fulfillment and joy, as they knew they had completed their mission. The trials they had faced seemed less daunting now, as they carried the wisdom of the Buddha with them.

As they traveled, the pilgrims were welcomed and honored by the people they encountered along the way. Word of their successful journey had spread far and wide, and many came to seek their blessings and guidance.

The Transformation of the Pilgrims

The journey home was also a time of reflection for the pilgrims. Wukong, once a rebellious and mischievous monkey, had become a disciplined and wise protector. Zhu Bajie, who had struggled with his desires and laziness, had learned the value of hard work and self-control. Sha Wujing, who had once been burdened by his past mistakes, had found redemption through his loyalty and perseverance.

Tripitaka, who had always been pure and devout, had grown even more in his understanding of the Dharma. He had faced many temptations and trials, but his unwavering faith had guided him through them all.

The Return to Chang'an

Finally, the pilgrims reached the city of Chang'an, where their journey had begun. They were greeted with great celebration by the Emperor and the people, who marveled at the sacred scriptures they had brought back. The Emperor decreed that the teachings of the Buddha would be spread throughout the land, and temples were built to house the scriptures and share the wisdom of the Dharma with all.

The pilgrims were honored for their achievements, and each of them was granted a title that reflected their contributions to the journey. Wukong was named the "Victorious Fighting Buddha," Zhu Bajie became the "Cleanser of the Altar," and Sha Wujing was titled the "Golden-Body Arhat."

Tripitaka was recognized as the "Messenger of the Buddha," and his name would forever be remembered as the one who brought the sacred teachings to the East.

The Journey’s End

With their mission complete, the pilgrims reflected on the incredible journey they had undertaken. They knew that their experiences had not only benefited them but would also bring enlightenment and salvation to countless others.

The chapter ends with the pilgrims entering a state of deep meditation, realizing that their journey was both an outward and inward one—a journey of the soul toward enlightenment.
